Advises on engineering and safety features to be incorporated when modernizing hydraulic lifts using oil as hydraulic fluid, such that components affected by such changes should comply with the safety rules of BS 5655 : Part 2 as far as is 'reasonably practicable'. Where it is not practicable to comply, such deviations to secure a minimum standard of safety are described. Where completely new installations are to supplement or replace existing installations, special recommendations are given to meet site restrictions often present in older buildings, so that the use of new equipment is not restricted due to modern site requirements being more rigorous than formerly.
