Covers the Reference Model of Open Systems Interconnection (OSI). Establishes a framework for coordinating the development of future and existing standards for the interconnection of systems and is provided for reference by those standards. This standard is meant to identify areas for developing or improving standards, and to provide a common reference for maintaining consistency of all related standards. This standard does not try to serve as an implementation specification, or to be a basis for appraising how actual implementations conform, or to give sufficient detail to define precisely the services and protocols of the interconnection architecture.
