Gives properties for various classes of petroleum fuels for both oil engines and burners for non-marine use, but excludes automotive diesel fuel. Does not preclude the lawful use of one class of fuel in an appliance designed for use with a fuel of another class, except that it is strongly recommended that only class C1 burner fuel should be used in flueless domestic appliances. While this applies to petroleum fuels, it is recognized that there is currently growing interest in the possibility of deriving alternative fuels. When assessing the suitability of such alternative fuels, the standard may be used only as a general guide.
