Applies to the steel wire ropes according to DIN 2078 listed in the following Table. These ropes are used for general purposes and in particular for lifting appliances and conveying equipment; for shipping and for mining 1) (apart from winding ropes). Of the large number of possible types of rope, those are considered which are most widely used. Ropes for special purposes such as winding ropes for mining and drilling lines for the mineral oil industry are not covered by this Standard.
