This Standard specifies requirements for helmets to be worn by riders and passengers of motor cycles and motor cycles with side cars excluding participants in competitive events. Requirements for accessories such as visors, goggles, detachable peaks and detachable face covers are not specified.\nRequirements with corresponding methods of test are given for:\n(a) extent of shell;\n(b) shock absorption properties;\n(c) penetration resistance;\n(d) response to oblique impact;\n(e) strength of chin guard;\n(f) strength and effectiveness of retention system.\nNOTE. Where the reference to use headform conforming to BS 6489 is specified in this Singapore Standard, headform conforming to draft ISO/DIS 6220 may be used as the alternative.\n
