This standard is included in DIN Handbook 49, 118 and 118/1. Described a method for the quantitative determination of small colour differences in the case of surface colours, as for example occur in the case of chemical or physical effects on coloured products, dis-coloration or as irregularities in production. Such a determination of the colour difference can form the basis for agreements on colour tolerances. The colour different is obtained from a colour difference formula from the colorimetric quantities L, a, b which are obtained from the standard tristimulus valued X, Y, Z (see Section 2).
