Specifies the UK 7-bit coded character set for general use in the UK, including letters, control characters, digits, punctuation signs and other symbols, the acronyms for the control characters of the set, and the coded representation of character. Makes provision for the direct representation of 128 characters, each represented by a 7-bit pattern. When its 128 characters are insufficient for a particular application, the standard provides facilities for the use of code extension.
