General notes:
This standard has been withdrawn as it is one of a series that are part of the IEC International Electrotechnical Vocabulary (IEV). It is based on (but not directly equivalent to) an IEC standard that has since been withdrawn and replaced (or being replaced) by new standards, so must either be revised or replaced. The committee has decided that the level of use does not justify a full revision. The IEV is now available 'on-line' via the IEC web-site. Because of the convenience and universality of on-line availability, sales of 'paper' copies of the standards are very low, CENELEC decided some time ago not to publish IEV standards in Europe. In view of this, and the shortage of suitable resources to maintain standards generally, BSI has made the similar decision not to publish new sections/revisions IEV as BS IEC publications and to withdraw the older BS versions of non-IEC identical sections as they fall due for review.
