This standard establishes minimum design, performance, testing and labeling requirements forsolutions that reduce dropped objects incidentsin industrial and occupational settings. Droppedobjects include hand tools, instrumentation, small parts, structural components and otheritems that have to be transferred and used atheights. These objects have the opportunity ofbecoming dropped objects potentially resulting instruck-by injury or fatality or damage to equipment. This standard focuses on preventativesolutions actively used by workers to mitigatethese hazards. The scope of this standard includes tetheringsystems subsequently installed to the tools andanchors after original manufacture. The primarytools (hand tools, fasteners, power tools) andprimary anchors (human body, lifts, structure)are considered native ends to the system andare specifically excluded from this standard. This standard does not address passive preventativesolutions such as netting, barricades andtoe boards, nor does this standard address protectivesolutions for dropped objects that minimizedamage from falling objects including headprotection, foot protection, and eye protection. This standard also does not address hoisting orlifting requirements for material handling. Thesesolutions are described in other standards, ifapplicable.
