The primary purpose of this document is to provide a Code of Practice for the use of fire retardant coatings applied to wood products to achieve the fire hazard properties required by the National Construction Code (NCC). This Code of Practice is intended to supplement the NCC by addressing issues relating to the supply, testing, installation and maintenance of fire retardant coatings. Where there is any conflict with requirements of the current edition of the NCC or other relevant legislation, the NCC and other legislation takes precedence.Typical fire retardant coatings are:- Paints and varnishes- Intumescent coatings- Encapsulation coating systems- Surface treatments with liquids.
