Proposes to continue the practice of using non-interchangeable connections for large medical oxygen and medical nitrous oxide cylinders within the medical connections system to comply with AS 2473. For medical oxygen contained in cylinders greater than 5 kg water capacity, it is proposed to formalize the use of Types 10 and 10.5 connections and that all other medical gas cylinders have pin-indexed outlet connections. As the diversity of demands may exhaust the combinations of single pin indexing, the Committee may consider the introduction of double row pin indexing. It is also proposed that all medical nitrous oxide connections be pin-indexed to overcome the potentially dangerous possibility of connecting industrial carbon dioxide to medical nitrous oxide applications.
