A variety of materials and methods are available to increase shear capacity in existing concrete members, including the use of section enlargement, internal reinforcement with dowels, external reinforcement with supplemental steel or fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) members, near-surface-mounted reinforcement, external post-tensioning, externally bonded FRP and fabric-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composite systems, and supplemental members.
