Parts 2, 3 and 4 specify requirements that are additional to those in Part 1, and apply to hand or automatically operated starters for industrial use, the main contacts of which are intended to be connected to circuits of rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V a.c. Part 5 specifies requirements for semiconductor (solid state) motor starters for industrial use and for rated voltage up to and including 1000 V. It covers starters that connect the motor directly to line voltage, that provide smooth starting by raising the voltage or frequency or both of the supply to the motor, that provides for two directions of rotation from rest and that intentionally causes the motor to stop. Sections include definitions, description, characteristics, information to be supplied by the manufacturer, conditions for operation in service, transport and storage, design and construction and tests.
