Specifies the upper sublayer of the physical layer, the physical layer protocol (PHY), for fibre distributed data interface (FDDI). FDDI consists of: a Data Link Layer (DLL) that controls the accessing of the medium and the generation and verification of frame check sequences to ensure the proper delivery of valid data to the higher layers; a Physical Layer (PL) that is divided into two sublayers (a Physical Layer Protocol and a Physical Medium Dependent).
