In actual service flexible cellular materials 1) are often subjected to prolonged compression. For this type of stressing, knowledge of the visco-elastic behaviour of the material is of particular importance. It is the object to specify standard test conditions for determining the plastic component of the strain (see fatigue loading s covered in DIN 53574). The methods of testing the compression set after constant strain is to be employed when this type of loading occurs or predominates under the service conditions to which a finished component is subjected.
