Provides basic rules for the selection of materials and execution of masonry to enable it to comply with the design assumptions of the other parts of Eurocode 6.

This standard is the subject of transitional arrangements agreed under a European Commission mandate. In order to allow for any changes in national regulations, the Commission in consultation with Member States have agreed a transition period for the coexistence of BS EN 1996-2 and corresponding national standards. At the end of this period BS 5628-1, BS 5628-2 and BS 5628-3 will be withdrawn.
