CONTAINED IN VOL 08.03, 2005Describes use of FDA migration cell in extraction of components, allows quantitation of individual migrants from plastic materials by suitable extracting liquids, including liquid foods and food-stimulating solvents. Gives two-sided, liquid extraction test for plastic materials formed into sheet, film or disks. Applies to migrant/polymer systems in contact with foods and food simulants. Validated for migration studies of unlabeled styrene from polystyrene. Not suitable for multi-layered plastics intended for single-sided food contact use. Size of cell may prevent determination total non-volatile extractives in some cases.
