This standard is included in DIN DVS Handbook 145. Lists the cracks that can occur in welded joints (welding cracks) whose occurrence is causally related to welding - without the influence of additional external loads and establishes standardized denominations for them. These include also cracks not occurring immediately after welding (during cooling of the workpiece) but some time afterwards and also cases where subsequent heat-treatment is carried out. No information is given as to how cracks are to be assessed in the individual case since this depends on the requirements for the particular welded joint, nor on the level of energy necessary to produce the crack. No account is taken of the position of the cracks in the welded joint or their shape (see also DIN 8524 Part 1 and Part 2).
