Defines the physical and magnetic characteristics of a 12.7 mm wide, 208 track magnetic tape cartridge, for enabling physical interchangeability between drives. In addition, it defines the quality of the recorded signals, a format and recording procedure, thus permitting data interchange between drives. Together with a labelling standard, eg ISO 1001, it permits full data interchange using such magnetic tape cartridges.
