The tear strength W, is used as a measure for the sensitivity of elastomers regarding the tear propagation of cuts. The results of the tear propagation tests depend largely on the special test conditions of the test method used, particularly on the shape of the test piece (e.g. trouser test piece in accordance with this standard, Graves angle test piece with nick as described in DIN 53515).
