Specifies quality system requirements to be used where a contract between two parties requires the demonstration of the capability of a supplier to supply and design product. The requirements specified are aimed primarily at preventing nonconformity at all stages (from design to servicing). Applies in contracts when: confidence in product conformance can be attained by satisfactory demonstration of certain supplier's capabilities in development, design, servicing, production and installation; the contract specifically requires design effort and the product requirements need to be established or are stated principally in performance terms.
