CONTAINED IN VOL 02.05, 2005Defines test requirements for a recognized metallographic method of determining the non-metallic inclusion level of powder forged steel parts. This procedure can also be used to establish the non-metallic inclusion content of powders intended for powder forging applications after they have been consolidated in a prescribed manner so that the core region where the assessment is to be carried out contains no porosity. This test procedure is not suitable for determining the non-metallic inclusion level of powder forged parts that have been forged such that the core region contains porosity or of those parts that contain manganese sulphide additions.
