Describes two methods for determining the total bound styrene content of styrene butadiene rubber latices which are reinforced with polystyrene or a copolymer of butadiene and styrene and non reinforced styrene butadiene rubber latices. Both the carbon/hydrogen and nitration methods give comparable results although differing in principle. Any auxiliary materials present in test samples may affect the accuracy of the determination.
