Applies to optical fibre cables for use with telecommunication equipment and devices employing similar techniques and to cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors. Presents requirements for the geometrical, transmission, mechanical and climatic characteristics of optical fibre cables, and electrical requirements. This entirely revised edition contains new measuring methods which were previously under consideration, such as torsion, snatch, kink, cable bend, temperature cycling, sheath integrity and water penetration. Temperature cycling measuring method (IEC 794-1-F1) is substituted. A guide for optical cables for short distance links is added in an annex.
