Defines a procedure for measuring smoke production from the exposed surface of specimens of essentially flat materials, composites or assemblies, not in excess of 25 mm thick, when put in a horizontal orientation and subjected to defined levels of thermal irradiance in a closed cabinet with or without the application of a pilot flame. Applies to all plastics, and may additionally be used for evaluating other materials, such as rubbers, textile-coverings, painted surfaces, wood and other building materials.
