Explains a titrimetric method to determine the total hardness and the content of calcium and magnesium ions in water. Applies to any kind of water with a total hardness of at least 5 micro mol/l (0,01 mg/l), a calcium content of at least 1 mg/l and a magnesium content of at least 1 mg/l. However this method is not suitable for waste water.
