Ascertains a common framework for describing the lifecycle of systems created by humans. It defines a setof processes and associated terminology. These processescan be applied at any level in the hierarchy of a system'sstructure. Selected sets of these processes can be appliedthroughout the life cycle for managing and performingthe stages of a system's life cycle. This is accomplishedthrough the involvement of all interested parties withthe ultimate goal of achieving customer satisfaction.
